10 Reasons Why Anime fans are Highly Satisfied in Life

Ever wonder why so many adults find those weird Japanese cartoons appealing? It’s not just you. “Normal” adults in Japan think it’s weird, too.

However, anime otaku (people who are totally obsessed with something  – in this case – anime) tend to be highly satisfied in life, and I think it has a lot to do with these 10 reasons:

1. They’re immersed in vivid colors regularly

Many anime shows have distinctive art styles that incorporate colors in beautiful and vibrant ways. Being exposed to all of these colors regularly can positively impact your mood, or maybe even help you pay attention to the vibrant colors around you in your daily life.

True, not all anime have bright, vibrant colors. Some anime are meant to be dark and depressing. But regardless of what exactly the color scheme of a show is, you can count of the fact that it will suck you into whatever world of colors its artists chose to rely on.

2. They learn new things often

While there are Chinese and Korean anime-like shows, a typical anime is Japanese. Anime fans come from all corners of the globe, so for anyone not Japanese, anime can actually be rather educational.

You learn a little bit about Japanese culture regardless of what anime you are watching, and if you watch the subbed versions of anime (the version in Japanese with English subtitles), you can also learn phrases and single words in Japanese.

3. They exercise their imaginations

You kind of have to have an imagination to get into anime in the first place. Most shows feature really crazy concepts and alternate universes that you just can’t view realistically.

For example, some of the most popular anime right now includes Naruto Shippuden, which features a light-hearted ninja teen who uses the life energy from the giant fox demon living inside of him to become stronger. Another very popular show is Attack on Titan (or Shingeki no Kyojin), which features a group of people trying to survive the giant, naked cannibals that come into town and try to eat everyone. You know, stuff like that.

Anime nerds are used to jumping into highly fictionalized shows and use their imaginations much more regularly than your average person. As a result, they’re generally much more creative and open minded than others.

4. They explore meaningful concepts regularly

Despite the rather unrealistic nature of most anime, many shows teach viewers a lesson or explore at least one major thematic issue central to human existence. For example, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood explores the themes of kinship, death and corruption. Sword Art Online explores how we construct our perceptions of reality and what makes one reality the true one.

5. They really value friendship

Of the core concepts discussed in anime, friendship is often one of them. Many shows place emphasis on how rare a truly good friend is, and this makes many anime nerds really appreciate the good friends they have.

6. They always have the perfect cure for a bad day

I think just about everyone has had a terrible day at some point. One of those days when you don’t feel like dealing with anyone or anything.

Anime is perfect for those kinds of days. Regardless of what you feel like watching, there’s bound to be an anime to fit the way you feel. Anime has many genres, some of which are more lighthearted, sci-fi, or serious than others. You can easily find something to inspire you with hope, or something to cater to your bad mood.

7. They know that nothing is impossible

One of the best parts about watching anime is how often a show can surprise you. Sometimes for the better; sometimes for worse. But if anime nerds know one thing, it’s that anything is possible.

8. They can easily make new friends

Not only is it pretty easy for anime nerds to be open to making new friends (see point #5), but the community of anime fanatics is actually quite large, even in the U.S. alone. This makes it really easy to find new people you have a lot in common with.

9. They’re comfortable with being “weird”

Unless you also watch anime, you probably think anime nerds are a little bit weird.

That’s okay, we kind of understand because very few of us were born watching anime. Most of us also thought it was weird at one point or another so, in a way, we can sympathize with you.

Anime nerds are used to being called weird and many of us are actually much more  comfortable with ourselves because of it.

10. They get to cosplay

One final reason that anime nerds are highly satisfied in life is cosplay. Cosplaying is when you dress up like a character from an anime, comic book, movie or even a TV show. It’s kind of like dressing up for Halloween, except whenever you feel like it.

Cosplaying can lead to greater life satisfaction because it’s typically done with other, like-minded people at large conventions. Not only does this facilitate a sense of togetherness and community, but it’s also just a ton of fun.

10 Most Respected Anime Leaders, Ranked

Although not always the protagonist, these 10 leaders act as an example for them and an embodiment of everything the main character strives to be.

What makes a good leader? Some argue it’s overwhelming power or the ability to crush any opponent whilst inspiring others. Others highlight the importance of charisma—using words to draw out the required emotions and push others into action.

However, one thing is undeniable—a leader is someone others will follow to their deaths. Anime is stacked with incredible leaders that push themselves and others to achieve great things. Although not always the main character, these leaders act as an example for the protagonist and an embodiment of everything the main character strives to be—whether they want to admit it or not. Although all leaders are great in some regard, there are those who rise above the rest.

10. Levi Ackerman Leads With His Actions

Silent but deadly, Levi is the type of leader who is respected because of the inhuman power he possesses. Often referred to as humanity’s strongest soldier, the Scout Captain effortlessly dismantles every opponent he faces, making viewers wonder if a human could be stronger than any titan.

Following the death of Erwin, Levi leads the charge against the beast titan and makes short work of him. Levi is not one to inspire hope using his words—instead he charges into battle and others follow, comforted by the knowledge that their leader is unrivaled.

9. All Might Is A Stereotypical Leader

All Might is a stereotypical leader who remains interesting because of his unique backstory. Commonly referred to as ‘The Symbol Of Peace’, All Might has used his powerful quirk to keep villains in check and civilians safe. Possessing unrivaled strength, All Might’s presence alone acts as a deterrent for villains.

But that’s not all—All Might is blessed with charisma that pushes others to new heights. Well aware that he won’t be around forever, All Might leads the new generation, nurturing and challenging them by shaping the rookies into the heroes of tomorrow.

8. Roy Mustang Understands The Political Landscape

A war hero with a fearsome reputation, Roy Mustang has all of the necessary qualities to one day lead his country. His flame alchemy is incredibly effective, and he defeats opponents that pose a threat constantly. He is smart, young, ambitious, and excellent with people—demonstrated by the loyalty he receives from his current team.

Perhaps his most impressive quality is his understanding of domestic politics—effectively navigating the political landscape and quickly rising the ranks. Even when made aware of the homunculi occupying high-ranking government roles, Mustang remains calm and collected and often devises plans that guide him and his comrades to victory.

7. Shikamaru Nara Relies On His Intellect

Fans of the show can’t be blamed for giving up on Shikamaru early on. He appeared lazy and talentless—more hopeless than young Naruto. But behind those less desirable qualities, Shikamaru possesses a rare intellect that lets him strategize and lead.

The lazy ninja never intended to be a leader but—for some—the role is thrust upon them because of their talent. From a young age, Shikamaru was responsible for the lives of others, rarely faltering. The Fifth Hokage recognized his talent early on and demanded more from the gifted shinobi. Because of this, Shikamaru climbed the ranks of the Hidden Leaf and now serves by The Seventh Hokage, Naruto’s, side as his personal advisor.

6. Lelouch Vi Britannia Can Do It All

A rare case of all-around excellence, Lelouch was born to lead. Cast aside by the royal family at a young age, Lelouch held a grudge for most of his life—the grudge growing and growing until he was presented with an opportunity to punish those who wronged him. As the leader of the Black Knights, Lelouch inspired his team with an intellect that rarely let him down.

Combining his genius with his Geass, he took down the Britannian Empire and brought peace to the world. Despite not being Japanese, he was accepted by the Japanese vigilante group—entrusted with leading and bringing about freedom.

5. Morel Understands His Own Limitations

Morel is a different type of leader. He isn’t the strongest, smartest, or most experienced—but it’s exactly that self-awareness that makes him such an effective Captain. Morel has a talent for recognizing the strengths and weaknesses of each individual. He then delegates roles to those qualified, resulting in highly successful plans.

It’s his humbleness and trusting nature that make him so endearing. He also has complete mastery of his nen. During the Chimera Ant Arc, Morel never doubts the capabilities of others, and he inspires the hunters to become their own leaders.

4. Julius Novachrono Desires A More Peaceful World

There are many reasons why Julius is so respected. He wields time magic—a power seemingly without any weaknesses and effective against every magic type. His mastery of this power is recognized by the Magic Knights Captains who consider Julius in a different stratosphere.

However, it’s Julius’s desire for equality that singles him out as a truly brilliant Wizard King. His dream is to rid the world of prejudice, hoping that royals and peasants can live in harmony. How will he achieve this? Fans of Black Clover aren’t too sure, but most wouldn’t bet against him.

3. Erwin Smith Understands His Soldier’s Fears

Erwin Smith was a man so inspiring he made every fan want to join the scouts. He was one of humanity’s greatest assets—possessing a combination of power, intellect, and charisma. As the leader of the Scouts, he faced the impossible task of rallying his troops to battle the terrifying Titans. How did he go about this? Well, he remained honest and recognized the danger and death that awaits them.

He had the talent of helping others see the bigger picture. Individual dreams needed to be set aside for humanity’s benefit. In his final moments, he called upon every ounce of leadership he had—leading a suicide mission for the greater good. He was loved and respected by all.

2. Kakashi Hatake Mentored Three Legendary Ninja

Talented, humble, and experienced, Kakashi was well-known throughout the Naruto universe. The leader of team 7 completed over one thousand missions for the Hidden Leaf Village, establishing himself as both a capable team player and leader. When assigned the role of leader of Team 7, Kakashi successfully nurtured each team member—helping them grow in strength and skill.

He realized the differences between Sakura, Naruto, and Sasuke early one and provided each of them with different kinds of mentoring. The three ninja went to become legendary figures— thanks in part to the guidance of Kakashi.

1. Integra Hellsing Possesses An Indomitable Will

The only character to have the respect of Alucard, Integra Hellsing was a brilliant leader. Extremely skillful, she possesses inhuman accuracy with a pistol and astonishing reflexes—cutting off the head of a Nazi vampire almost instantly.

She is highly intelligent and—despite being so young—has done an excellent job as leader of the Hellsing Organisation. Arguably Integra’s most impressive feature is her indomitable will, fearlessly facing any situation thrown at her. It’s because of these qualities that Integra demands the loyalty of the King of vampires.
